Hide and Seek: Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts 1st Year MFA Candidacy Exhibition

History books tell us what they want us to know. People show us the face they want us to see. Although we may seek a deeper understanding of our world, we cannot fully know it because the information is filtered and manipulated by those who deliver it. Sometimes, the motive to obscure is malicious - in service of capitalism, racism, transphobia, misogyny, Xenophobia, and antisemitism. Sometimes, however, the intention is to protect the seeker or a form of self-preservation.

For better or worse, the truth is hidden from us.

The work in this exhibition attempts to break this barrier - it investigates, researches, reveals, and discovers. We tell the secret stories of our environments, histories, families, and ourselves. We are even finding them for the first time. We are even still seeking.
