ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

Nicolo Gentile is an artist working and living in Philadelphia, PA. He received his MFA from the Tyler School of Art and Architecture. His work is an investigation of Queer radicalism, presence, absence and ecstasy. From the gym to the showers, from the dancefloor to the bedroom, his work examines the physical conditions of relational identity and sexuality construction. Composed of leather, latex, iron and steel, his sculptures and installations slip between recognizable materials of kink, industry and sport to address the oscillating power dynamics of gender, masculinities and BDSM.

John Knight is a conceptual artist based in Missoula, MT. Knight holds a MFA in Visual Studies from Pacific Northwest College of Art, Portland, OR. His work is concerned with class identity and its intersection with design and architecture. Knight has presented solo exhibitions at the Holland Project, Reno, NV; Final Hot Desert, Salt Lake City, UT; Private Places and Muscle Beach, Portland; the American Institute of Thoughts and Feelings, Tucson, AZ; and Julius Caesar, Chicago, IL. Upcoming solo efforts include exhibitions at Window Mine, Reno; and BSMNT Gallery in Leipzig, Germany. Curatorial efforts include: Williamson | Knight and Cherry and Lucic, Portland; and THE PINK HOUSE (Jan. 19 1995) at Bad Reputation, Los Angeles, CA. Recent residencies include: the Carrizozo AIR program, Carrizozo, NM; and the New York Arts Practicum, New York City, NY. Knight works at the Missoula Art Museum as a Registrar, and serves on the board of directors for KALICO Art Center in Kalispell, MT.

Orlando Thompson is a movie maker, photographer, and podcast host based in St. Louis. Working first as an actor before becoming entranced by production behind the camera, Orlando began his first film project, Follow Me, in 2001. The black and white silent feature-length movie was a mash-up of quick cuts, camera motion, and stylized compositions set to music. Follow Me laid the foundation for his unique cinematic approach. In 2010 Orlando relocated to Doha, Qatar to produce video and documentary projects for Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art, the first museum dedicated to modern and contemporary Arab art. Since then he has helped shape the digital personality through video and the documentation of artworks and programs at the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis, Birmingham Museum of Art, Gwangju Biennale in South Korea and the Asian Art Biennial in Taiwan. Thompson has created narrative film, and video projects for national and regional Public Broadcasting Service (PBS)  markets and currently hosts The B-Side podcast featuring interviews with nationally recognized artists and creatives.

Janie Stamm was born and raised on the edge of the Everglades in Broward County, Florida. She is a craft-based artist currently residing on the western banks of the Mississippi River in Saint Louis, Missouri. Her work focuses on preserving Florida’s environmental and Queer history in the face of climate change. She uses a craft-based practice to tell these stories. In the spring of 2019, Janie received an MFA in Visual Art from Washington University in Saint Louis. She was most recently the recipient of the 2019 John T. Milliken Foreign Travel Graduate Award, a Regional Arts Commission grant, a Critical Mass grant, a Dubinsky Scholarship to study at the Fine Arts Work Center, and the Frida Kahlo Creative Arts Award from Washington University in St. Louis. Her work was featured on the cover of the December 2016 issue of Poetry magazine. Janie has shown work throughout the country including Los Angeles, Atlanta, Chicago, and throughout the Saint Louis regional area. She was an artist in residence at ACRE in Wisconsin, the Cite Internationale des Arts in Paris, Aquarium Gallery in New Orleans, and SAFTA in Tennessee. Janie was a teaching artist-in-residence at the Contemporary Art Museum in Saint Louis until the COVID-19 lock downs began. If you are looking for her, Janie can often be found sewing and beading in her studio or watching X-Files reruns with her cat, Poppy.

The influences of his upbringing have produced an insatiable curiosity of the human story, and a powerful fascination with people and culture. Inspired by the beauty, pain, and honesty of the Midwest, he attempts to objectively document the complexities of our world through photography.
