Artist Talk: Katherine Simóne Reynolds

Join G-CADD in an artist talk and conversation with one of our current exhibiting artists, Katherine Simóne Reynolds. She will discuss her practice and her exhibition, 'When at all costs', which is on display at G-CADD until January 20th.

Reynolds' work consists of sculptural, video, and photographic portraits of seven prominent Black athletes from the last three decades. For Reynolds, the alluring image of the Famous Black Athlete saturated her childhood, with each swing, stride, and gaze at the audience representing a desire to succeed. In her work, Reynolds asks of these athletes, What country are you representing on your back when you make that victory lap? What will you do to be “twice as good”? Utilizing the Black body and her own personal Black experience as a place of departure, Reynold’s work discusses the ownership, visibility, and authenticity of the contemporary gaze.
